"If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.
"It's the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen; by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the very first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different; that their voices could be that difference.
"It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled - Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been just a collection of individuals or a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America."
Si todavía queda alguien por ahí que aún duda de que Estados Unidos es un lugar donde todo es posible, quien todavía se pregunta si el sueño de nuestros fundadores sigue vivo en nuestros tiempos, quien todavía cuestiona la fuerza de nuestra democracia, esta noche es su respuesta.
Es la respuesta dada por las colas que se extendieron alrededor de escuelas e iglesias en un número cómo esta nación jamás ha visto, por las personas que esperaron tres horas y cuatro horas, muchas de ellas por primera vez en sus vidas, porque creían que esta vez tenía que ser distinta, y que sus voces podrían suponer esa diferencia.
Es la respuesta pronunciada por los jóvenes y los ancianos, ricos y pobres, demócratas y republicanos, negros, blancos, hispanos, asiaticos, indígenas, gays, heterosexuales, discapacitados o no discapacitados. Estadounidenses que transmitieron al mundo el mensaje de que nunca hemos sido simplemente una colección de individuos ni una colección de estados rojos y estados azules. Somos, y siempre seremos, los Estados Unidos de América.
—Por qué con tus encantamientos infernales, me has arrancado a la tranquilidad de mi primera vida... El sol y la luna brillaban para mí sin artificio; me despertaba entre apacibles pensamientos, y al amanecer plegaba mis hojas para hacer mis oraciones. No veía nada de malo, pues mo tenía ojos; no escuchaba nada de malo, pues no tenía oídos; ¡pero me vengaré!
